Had the opportunity to visit the marvelous cities of Cartagena and Barranquilla Colombia to participate in a joint teacher training with 4 cohorts of elementary school teachers, led by the Pies Descalzos foundation and sponsored by our donor to Code.org, Amazon Future Engineer.
Shakira’s foundation has been very active in building several model schools with very strong infrastructure in marginalized communities in several cities. We visited some of these schools and I was moved to hear the administration describe how the entire community had been uplifted by the presence of a modern school with meal services, playgrounds, performing arts centers, and libraries and computer labs.

Our facilitators led 2 day workshops for teachers that have had zero prior experience teaching computational thinking and computer science. It is very inspiring to see how quickly the teachers get the concepts and their genuine engagement in the potential of these curricula for their students.
